Providing tailored route advice
Now that motorists are increasingly relying on in-car information via travel apps or built-in navigation systems, up-to-date traffic data can be processed directly into their route advice. This gives road authorities new opportunities to provide road users with more targeted information at the right location and at the right time. Together with service providers, NDW is developing various in-car applications that ensure safer, more sustainable and smoother traffic flow and help to prevent rat-running. By providing motorists with relevant information before, during and after their journey, road authorities can better tailor their traffic management to the situation on the road. Examples include advance notices informing travellers about planned roadworks or events, or congestion alerts about current disruptions on the route, such as tunnel closures and incidents.
