Road safety
Traffic safety is about preventing accidents and protecting all road users. Whether someone is cycling, walking, or driving, safe infrastructure and targeted policies help reduce risks. Data plays an important role in this. By identifying risk locations in a timely manner, we can take targeted measures that help prevent accidents.
Public and private collaboration
NDW collaborates with governments and other parties to make road safety data accessible and usable. To this end, the Road Safety Data Portal has been developed: a central location where policymakers and researchers can find data that helps them make informed decisions.
Value for Partners
The Road Safety Data Portal offers a wide range of datasets, including:
- Infrastructure data, such as speed bumps and speed limits
- Traffic behaviour, such as the percentage of safe road users
- Insight into risk locations and traffic flows
This information helps to better address risks, in line with the Strategic Road Safety Plan (SPV). This allows us to focus on locations where the risk of accidents is highest.
Value for residents
Everyone benefits from a safe traffic environment. By using data intelligently, municipalities can identify bottlenecks and take fact-based measures. Think about addressing unsafe crossings or routes where people drive too fast. This contributes to a safe living environment for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.
Applications

Application example
Overview of traffic risks in the municipality
As a policy officer, you can collect road safety data in your municipality and prepare a report with NDW. This report shows the current risk locations and helps determine which measures are most urgently needed.
